NEEBA 2020

North Eastern European Biomass Agenda 2020

With the continued pace of world economic growth and the imminent decline of fossil fuels, the use of bio-based renewable resources gains importance in many sectors, including energy, organic chemicals and polymers. To face the complex challenge of holistic biomass utilization, an innovative and precisely orchestrated interaction and communication of the key players in science, industry and politics is needed. The major goal of this initiative in Phase 1 (2011-2012) is the development of a common North Eastern European concept for the establishment of a value chain for sustainable holistic (material and energetic) utilization of biomass –
the North Eastern European (Baltic) Biomass Agenda 2020.

The aim of the project is the establishment of an international interdisciplinary network of scientific institutions, as well as political and industrial partners within the Baltic Sea region. Moreover, the project targets the development of a value chain concept for the holistic and sustainable utilization of biomass in the countries of the Baltic Sea.

The North-Eastern European Biomass Agenda 2020 will provide solid background for the development of concrete cooperation projects and act as an instrument for intensified targeted communication with political decision makers and science funding agencies of the countries involved. The long-term goal is communication with politics and science funding agencies of the Baltic Sea countries to enhance the possibilities of scientific and industrial cooperation between the countries in the region.

The aim of the project is the establishment of an international interdisciplinary network of scientific institutions, political, and industrial partners within the Baltic Sea region.
